“There is no one magic move or secret that creates victory, but lots of little items that when added together can make you victorious.” -Bill Toomey
These words ring true for David Kaloki, who was recently named Employee of the Year at Ocean Sole! Quite a feat! As a way to recognize the team and encourage a bit of healthy competition, we usually award employees of the month. At the end of the year, we award a highly motivating employee.
I’m sure many companies have their criteria for awarding their employees of the year; at Ocean Sole, our criteria are simple, we look for someone with the following qualities:
- Positive attitude
- Disciplined
- Hardworking
- Honest
- Dependable
- Team player
For David Kaloki, it’s been quite the year, full of exciting sculptures he has sculpted that are currently being displayed worldwide!
A bit about David…
David has worked at Ocean Sole for nine years. He comes from a family of one brother and three sisters. David is married with four children. His eldest is in college, and his youngest is in junior high!
“Working at Ocean Sole has helped me to take care of my children and educate them; my eldest is in college and doing very well; I’m a proud father.”
I recently caught up with Kaloki, and from our conversation, one thing he said moved me. I asked him where he sees himself ten years from now, and his response was, “In ten years, I’ll have finished educating all my children, and I believe they will be successful individuals. Therefore, I will take time to focus on my personal growth.”
I proceeded to ask him what he loves most about his job. He said when people see his sculptures, it makes them happy, and he loves seeing people happy.

David’s favourite animal to carve is the elephant.
He enjoys being in the field watching or playing football when he's not at work.
