🐢 Sea Turtle Week with Soul: Conservation, Creativity & Eco Art fr – Ocean Sole

By Thomas, Coastal Operations Manager

Every June, Sea Turtle Week celebrates one of the ocean’s most majestic—and endangered—species. But this year at Ocean Sole, we did something different. We brought the message of turtle conservation in Kenya into classrooms, art projects, and the hearts of over 400 young minds.

If you’re someone who believes that art can inspire change (and we know our queenager community does), you’ll love what happened next.

🌊 World Ocean Day: Where Purpose Meets Action

We launched Sea Turtle Week with a hands-on event at Kenya’s Kilifi Creek, an area threatened by plastic waste and mangrove loss. Alongside students from Fumbini and Hope Integrated schools—and our partners at Leaf Charity and Distant Relatives—we planted over 600 mangrove seedlings and collected 178.27 kg of waste.

Students in Kenya create a sea turtle collage from recycled bottle tops, showcasing Ocean Sole’s mission to turn ocean waste into eco art and inspire support for flip flop sculptures and sustainable home decor.

These students didn’t just clean a coastline. They helped restore biodiversity and protect local food security.

“Seeing students plant mangroves with care—and then ask how they could do more—was a reminder that change begins with community.”
Thomas, Coastal Operations Manager

📚 Learning with Heart: Creative Conservation in Classrooms

From June 9 onward, we visited six coastal schools for a week-long turtle awareness campaign. With support from the Ecos Project and resources from the official #SeaTurtleWeek site, we taught kids about:

  • Sea turtle life cycles

  • Threats like poaching and plastic pollution

  • Actions to protect marine life

What made it unforgettable? Flip flop sculptures.

Child learning turtle anatomy with a colorful flip flop sculpture by Ocean Sole, where educational impact meets collectible eco art ideal for queenagers seeking sustainable decor.

We used our signature eco art—vibrant turtles hand-carved from recycled flip-flops—to teach anatomy, celebrate Kenyan artistry, and spark a love for sustainability in young learners.

🎨 From Waste to Wonder: Conservation Art in Action

Students then created their own sustainable art from waste using plastic bottle tops, trivia games, puzzles, and collage projects. Their reward? Handcrafted Ocean Sole flip flop sculptures and keychains — beautiful pieces that also serve as eco-conscious corporate gifts and tangible symbols of ocean protection.

students proudly display their handmade sea turtle collage, echoing Ocean Sole’s belief in art that transforms waste into purpose—and inspires others to collect eco-friendly flip flop sculptures.

“We believe in art that teaches, heals, and transforms—and this week, it inspired over 400 future ocean protectors.”

🤝 Partnerships That Protect the Planet

This Sea Turtle Week reminded us what’s possible when community-led conservation, CSR environmental partnerships, and creativity come together. We didn’t just teach science. We sparked pride, joy, and purpose.
